I’m one of those people who like to be in control.
Yes, I’m a self-proclaimed control freak!
And if you’re anything like me, you’ll know what I mean when something doesn’t go quite to plan…it can be VERY frustrating.
That in itself, is fine – but the KILLER is that it can ruin the rest of an experience!
Let’s say for example you have an AMAZING time with your friends and family on a long weekend – but you are stung with an unexpected bill for the mini-bar at the end.
If I don’t catch myself – I KNOW that’s what I will focus on – not the crazy-good weekend I just had.
And who’s got time for that in their BEST life!?
So why so I do that? Why do I become fixated on the negative?
The good news is, it’s not my fault! (And it’s not yours either!)
At the end of the day, as humans – we are all wired the same way, for one ultimate purpose.
On an unconscious level, we are constantly on the lookout for things that can hurt us.
We have this pre-programmed assumption that things CAN and WILL GO WRONG.
That we should be AFRAID.
That what we NEED and WANT is FEW and FAR BETWEEN.
Not ideal, right?
So how do we get around that?
We are always going to have plans that go off the rails.
We will miss out on things.
Not get what we want.
The thing is though – we have a CHOICE of what we FOCUS ON.
We can either focus on what’s MISSING or what’s WRONG.
OR – choose to focus on what is THERE and what is AVAILABLE.
Look for ABUNDANCE.
Think about it.
If you choose to only be happy when things are going the way you want them to – happiness will CONSTANTLY elude you.
When I discuss this concept with my clients, they often will fire back with – “But aren’t I just living in DENIAL?”
You are empowering yourself with a CHOICE.
You are CHOOSING abundance and gratitude and therefore, you are CHOOSING happiness.
You always, always, ALWAYS have a choice.
The more you make THAT choice, the more you empower yourself with abundance and gratitude – the BETTER and HAPPIER you will be.
Make this your default response – don’t give yourself a Plan B!
So next time you have an unexpected bill at the end of a fabulous long weeend…or you get a speeding fine….or you’re late to an appointment…focus on what you can be grateful for and embrace the abundance in your life.
And I PROMISE I will too!
After all, we don’t have a Plan B, right!?
